Museum of lamps in Krosno

18 th April Friday 2014

Krosno is a small town ( about 50 000 inhabitants)  is located 6 km from my town. Here is located the largest collection of lamps in Europe
Museum in Krosno

Museum, opened in the sixteenth-century Renaissance Bishop's Palace in 1954, is famous especially for Europe's largest collection of kerosene lamps ranging in date from the second half of the nineteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century as well as for its holdings of applied and artistic glass manufactured in the Krosno glassworks since 1923.

History of lighting – the Museum’s pride exhibition comprises the kerosene lamps collection – the largest in Europe – is the display core; the exhibits come from various European and world manufacturers. The exhibition shows the most popular sources of light in a chronological order, from ancient oil lamps through modern candlesticks to the early 20 th century first electric lamps. Impressive and richly decorated lamps of sound and perfect workmanship being an attraction themselves, are displayed in exceptional arrangement which introduces visitors into the atmosphere of a bourgeois drawing room of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

This one is not very beautiful but very expensive one.

There is a wide choice to see.

  1. Beautiful lamps, and such a variety of different types. I love the painted ones. I have a couple of those old lanterns in my garden.

  2. It looks a nice town and what an unusual collection. I didn't realise there were so many different lamps. I'm more familiar with the ones hanging from above. They are the kind we had many years ago when we lived in a tent.
